A Night of Celebration and Philanthropy at the AFJ Gala
This past weekend, I had the distinct honor of serving as the Master of Ceremony for the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) 20th Annual Gala in Miami, Florida. As someone who deeply values philanthropy and community, being part of an event like this was truly humbling.
About the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ)
The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) is a non-profit organization that provides support for Jamaicans in need, focusing on vital issues such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. AFJ’s mission is close to my heart as they work tirelessly to address challenges on the island and raise funds to improve the lives of those who need it most. Through their efforts, they create lasting, positive change in Jamaica’s communities.
Honoring Elias "Lee" Issa and Paul Issa
One of the most poignant moments of the gala was the honoring of two incredible individuals: Elias “Lee” Issa and Paul Issa. These men have made profound contributions to their communities, and it was an honor to present Elias "Lee" Issa with a proclamation from Miami-Dade County Mayor Danielle Levine-Cava. Their dedication to their country and its people is an inspiration.
Dignitaries and Recognition from Prime Minister Andrew Holness
The evening was graced by many esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. The Most Honorable Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica. I was deeply honored when Prime Minister Holness complimented me on my work as the MC. His kind words were a highlight of the night and a reminder of the importance of meaningful, dedicated work in such important events.
Raising Funds for Jamaican Philanthropy
A total of $550,000 was raised during the gala to support the philanthropic efforts of AFJ, helping to provide education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for Jamaicans. I am proud to have been a part of this event, knowing the positive impact it will have on many lives across Jamaica. AFJ’s mission is all about building a brighter future for the people of Jamaica, and I look forward to seeing how these funds will be put to work.

Reflecting on the evening, I am reminded of the incredible power of community and collaboration.
